New modular courses are a response to introduction of compulsory CPD and changing regulatory environment
The London School of Architecture (LSA) has launched “Part 4”, its new programme of learning modules aimed at architects and other built environment professionals.

CPD is supposed to be flexible, no fixed hours or subjects, continual learning at your own pace, to improve your own development.
Construction can keep you occupied as it is constantly changing, it is extremely stressful and time is a commodity. Having learning that can fit into this busy lifestyle is the only way to make it work.
The current flexibility in online learning has cut out the extra time of travel to and from venues. The myriad of product companies that offer CPD on current materials and usage at your office is often a great alternative, not only for their use and maintenance but for improving detailing. No one wants to spend too many evenings at lectures either and above all it should be enjoyable.
This ‘Part 4’ just looks and feels like a continuation to a more fixed learning, not one that is evolving with the times. The RIBA already has fresh CPD topics regularly with a two day ‘Guerrilla Tactics’ yearly, all of these are on point and not just a rerun of what they had previously.
This may be the way to go for some but CPD to me means that you are learning while you work, and that means learning about things that are currently being discussed.
