This online event details the findings of research undertaken by Amrutha Kishor & Allan Joyce Architects, which was shortlisted for the 2019 RIBA Presidents Award for Research.
While completing her MA at the University of Nottingham, Kerala-based practitioner Amrutha Kishor worked with Allan Joyce Architects to look at how energy performance differed between predicted and actual energy consumption in newly-built houses.
The research project (Energy Performance Gaps in Residences in the UK) involved creating simple models of seven differing typologies/house designs completed by the Nottingham-based practice between 1998 and 2018 and used actual data from residents’ energy bills to show how software-generated predictions did not match actual energy use.
Practice Director Tricia Akers provides the context for the research and Presidents Awards submission, with a more detailed look at three of the typologies presented by researcher Amrutha Kishor.
Architectural designer Sara Saadouni concludes with how the findings of the research have impacted subsequent projects undertaken by the practice.
The event includes a Q&A session chaired by Chris Heuvel, RIBA Fellow and Chair of the RIBA East Midlands Research and Innovation Sub-group. This video was recorded on Tuesday 3 November 2020. Part of the RIBA's People, Place, Planet series.
