Lessons from a Zero-Carbon Era

CPD Events

In the near future, the need for new built spaces, as well as the matter of the resources used to achieve them, will be among the crucial issues we will face under the pressure of expected demographic growth. In 2060 we will have built more than twice the built surface currently present on our planet. But where will we find all the resources to do it and the energy to maintain these buildings? Even before imagining a technological future for buildings, it is necessary to look at that past in which, for millennia, we built buildings that did not require energy by making the best possible use of the available resources and respecting nature's regeneration times. Today, we need to draw on bio-inspiration, to learn and imitate the plant kingdom. It is about assimilating the profound lesson of relationships and plant complexity to transform it into the intelligence of buildings. In this sense, the role of light digital technology, is still largely to be tested and will play an important role in the construction of possible "green futures". The most representative projects of Mario Cucinella’s studio philosophy will be presented as examples of an architecture that tries to respond to the challenges of the future, drawing lessons from the past as well as from the new frontier of plant intelligence.
