Architecture Anew series Low-Tech: Working creatively with nature

CPD Events

For the second talk in our Architecture Anew series, we will hear from a panel of architects, artists, and designers who are finding new ways to work with natural materials and traditional technologies.

This a recording of a virtual event held on 20 April 2021.

Have we been too quick to focus on the promise of new technologies and "smart cities" in facing the challenges arising from climate change? What are some of the different ways that we can incorporate technologies based on nature? This event will bring together an interdisciplinary panel of practitioners committed to working creatively with natural local materials such as thatch, rammed earth, timber, and hemp.

Through short presentations and discussion, this event explores how low-tech ecological solutions based on traditional techniques could lead us closer to designing a more sustainable future.

Speakers:
Paloma Gormley, Co-founder of Practice Architecture
Heather and Ivan Morison, Studio Morison
Jonathan Tuckey, Jonathan Tuckey Design
Kongjian Yu, Turenscape
Chaired by Hattie Hartman, Hon FRIBA, Sustainability Editor at the Architects' Journal
