The Architecture Journal (AJ) will be hosting a webinar on Thursday 19th September 2024 (12:30pm - 1:30pm)

Webinar info:

Hear from the winners of AJ Small Projects 2024 at a free webinar, in association with Marley, focussed on incorporating sustainable principles into lower budget architectural design.

Joining the discussion, which will be chaired by the AJ’s Rob Wilson, is this year’s overall Small Projects winner Takeshi Hayatsu of Hayatsu Architects; the People’s Choice winner Kate Nicklin of Commonbond Studio; and Sustainabilty Award winner Jack Mutton of Topo Architects. Each of the three architects will be talking about their winning projects followed by a short panel discussion considering the importance of environmental and social sustainability in the success of projects on smaller budgets.

Takeshi will talk about their project for Grizedale Arts - The Farmer’s Arms Cold Food Store - which adapted traditional Japanese building techniques using locally sourced materials. Jack will discuss the light touch retrofit of a former office building in Newcastle for a local arts charity, and Kate will present the practice’s self-built hempcrete architecture studio in south-east London. A key part of the discussion will explore the question: how do you prioritise sustainability when designing on a budget of £350,000, or below?
