Why get ahead of future trends, why scan the Horizon? How can we shape the future and not just react to it?

 

Introducing the RIBA Horizons 2034 programme, this session makes clear the case for foresight. Why do public and commercial organisations and professional bodies undertake horizon-scanning programmes? What might the architectural profession gain from looking to the horizon to identifying sources of change and opportunity? 

 

The programme will help provide knowledge of emerging trends, knowledge that is essential to the design and construction industries, and which provides the basis for decisions that minimize risks and maximise opportunities. It will highlight why architects and built environment professionals need to engage with the long-term, as well as the here and now.
