In this recording, each speaker highlights the importance of developing skills such as writing, communication and engagement and how they can be use a tool to add value to consultation, engagement and education in the design process and decision making in the world of architecture.

Anna joined DMA in 2009 and heads up their recently opened Liverpool office. An experienced architect, she works with both public and private sector clients creating uplifting spaces for living, learning and working. She is currently leading Claire House Children’s Hospice project, to design vital new facilities at a former monastery in Liverpool.

Jo Harrop, Director of PLACED (Place Education CIC), Built Environment Education and Engagement
Jo is passionate about diversifying the voices involved in the design and decision-making process in relation to the built environment, enabling more people to shape the future of places and spaces. Jo established PLACED in 2011 to deliver creative, accessible Education and Engagement programmes that enable people to meaningfully engage with and shape their built environment. She leads the team on strategic delivery and direction of programmes, along with supporting activity on the ground.

Juliette Mitchell, Writer, Architypal
Juliette Mitchell helps architects clarify their purpose and their values so that they can tell better stories and inspire the clients they want. She’s a firm believer in the power of words to change people’s minds and make things happen, and she’s helped small practices feel comfortable in their skin, growing practices find their place, and large practices put the human back into their voice and narrative. Before bringing her fresh eye to the world of architecture, she worked for many years as an editor at Penguin Books. Ryan Stuckey, Senior Lecturer, Swansea School of Architecture, UWTSD
Ryan is an Chartered Architect and has been qualified for 11 years following a late entry in life to part 2 and 3 education. He is a partner in a small family practice since based in South Wales, with projects ranging from small scale domestic clients through industrial development, commercial town centre retail and sports stadia and facilities. The practice was closed in March 2022 to commit more time to an academic career, although Ryan will remain in practice acting as a consultant to George & Co for the foreseeable future.
