A Concrete Centre event hosted by Derwent London, with AHMM architects.
White Collar Factory (WCF), London EC1 is an innovative new workplace with a focus on passive design, natural ventilation smart servicing, flexibility and adaptation to changes in use and our likely future climate. This project is just one example of the principle for designing new office environments and breathing new life into existing buildings.
The WCF concept has evolved over 5 years, through collaboration between Derwent London and AHMM architects, Arup and AKT-II and its latest iteration is well underway at Old Street Yard, including the construction of a new 16-storey tower. Concrete is at the heart of the project, with exposed concrete surfaces offering robust, aesthetic surfaces with character and thermal mass for energy efficiency and comfort. At WCF, the principle of Concrete Core Cooling (CCC) has been extended to include embedded water cooling in the slab.
There are many advantages for owner and occupier of the White Collar Factory concept and this seminar explored how the project provides a healthy working environment.
The seminar featured presentations by the design team and developer, who shared insights into the design concept, its evolution and the role of concrete in the project, including research on the impact of future climate on energy consumption and comfort criteria
