City Makers : Karen Cook of PLP Architects

CPD Events

Karen Cook will illustrate two different responses to the City’s built environment through her work at 22 Bishopsgate and 4 Cannon Street.

These two recent buildings designed by Karen Cook, 22 Bishopsgate and 4 Cannon Street, illustrate two different responses to the City’s built environment. One has both local and skyline context, the other more immediate but sitting between two Wren monuments, the Cathedral and the Abbey, and next to Grade II* Bracken House.

22 Bishopsgate offers amenities, permeability, consolidated delivery, end of trip facilities, external artwork, a viewing gallery; Cannon Street offers a generous roof terrace and public access to a new pocket park.

Whilst inevitably discussing post-Covid life, or living with pandemics, we hope the presentation will provoke wider questions and debate about density and mix of uses as well as living and working in the City of the future.

City Makers Series
The Temple Bar Trust’s City Makers series explores aspects of city planning architecture and placemaking by key architects working in the City and historians engaged with its varied and dramatic stresses and strains. Our timeframe embraces a number of centuries, recent decades and includes teams working in significant ways to forge the future public design quality of the City in the 2020s.
