Launched in 1999, the AR Emerging Architecture awards now have more than two decades of history exploring and celebrating the work of young architects from all over the world. Where the once-fledgling talents of past winners and finalists who have since become established on a global stage might pass their wisdom on to those that follow their footsteps, we feel that knowledge and new ideas can also pass in the other direction, with much to be learned from the young.
The Architectural Review is delighted to present three conversations between past winners and finalists and their contemporary counterparts, to discuss the common themes and questions raised by their practice, as well as ideas for the future.
Bijoy Jain, founder of Studio Mumbai in conversation with Frida Escobedo on what brings together art, sculpture, furniture (and architecture) and where the lines between one and the other start to dissolve.
John Lin and Joshua Bolchover of Rural Urban Framework in conversation with Jesica Amescua Carrera of Comunal Taller de Arquitectura on their deep commitment to architecture being a social act and a collective endeavour and how the ways they work challenge the authority of the architect.
