RIBA Yorkshire will be hosting a webinar on Thursday 20th June 2024 (1:00pm - 2:00pm)
Webina info:
Small & Emerging Practice representative Paul Wainwright would like to invite you to join us Thursday 20th June at 1pm for a very interesting online joint architecture and engineering session about timber designs for fire in collaboration with Shingi Tarirah, a chartered structural engineer and an Associate Lecturer at the Central St Martins College Of Art in London.
Timber is a key modern construction material and its recent revival on the back of increased sustainability awareness can help designers and clients reduce embodied carbon emissions for our built environment interventions. With the current challenges the industry faces with insurers, it is important to learn how to navigate around the design issues and how to detail structures well to improve their performance and reassure insurers and clients.
This CPD will explain the role of the structural engineers in designing the timber buildings for fire and how they collaborate with other consultants to successfully deliver timber developments. There will also be a discussion about the structural fire safety objectives and how they can be achieved.
Connections are an essential part of timber design and a series of outline good practices for connection design in fire will be outlined. The case studies highlighted will illustrate how some fire design concepts impact real-life structural proposals.
