Old timers will remember (probably with a groan) that when the blackouts happened half a century ago things were much simpler, especially within architecture.
We are so reliant on the computer for everything we do today, and the art of drawing using a board is a thing of the past. Back then you could still continue using lamps and candles, but now you would need to make sure that your computer doesn’t crash, loss of work, communication, back-up servers, etc.
The list goes on.
Is this something to be worried about? I work from home and don’t want to be in a situation where I have no power and lose work.
I have never even contemplated that there could be a shortage of power. Should I get a power pack for my laptop etc.?
I’m seriously thinking of getting a decent off grid solar (although it’s not cheap). It is probably worth it because as things get more expensive at least it will be one less thing I’ll be paying for.
I think problems may arise if blackouts happen suddenly but if you are warned in advance you will be able to work around it.
Hopefully none of this will happen but I think it’s good to be prepared now. Also your electricity costs will be less going forward.
Still no blackouts yet!
Scaremongers!!
